Образовались в 1981 году в составе Frank Mertens (клавишные), Mariah Golo (вокал), Bergnard Lloyd (ритм-машина). Помимо этой тройки в составе присутствовало еще четыре человека. В 1985 году группу покинул Mertens, а в составе Alphaville появился Rick Echolette (клавишные). Появившийся в 1984 году альбом "Forever Young" получил восторженные отклики, как и последующая работа "Afternoons In Utopia".
